What Is the Church? | Lord, Teach Me How

What does the word “church” really mean?

This teaching is a real-life reflection on surrender, sanctification, relationships, discernment, healing, overcoming, and learning to walk with Jesus through the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The church is not merely buildings, entertainment, attendance, denominations, or personalities.

The church is believers gathered together in the Name of Jesus Christ under Him as the Head — learning, praying, growing, surrendering, helping one another, and allowing Christ to continue working in us over time.

At the center of this teaching is a simple but honest prayer:

“Lord, teach me how.”

How to overcome.
How to surrender.
How to heal.
How to love.
How to walk through hard things with God.
How to let Christ work in me.

And then after overcoming, learning to pray:

“Lord, teach me how to help others through these things too.”

This message also reflects on:

  • Christ in us,

  • the early church in Acts,

  • worshipping God rather than man,

  • iron sharpening iron,

  • relationships,

  • the Holy Spirit drawing people,

  • and believers learning together while walking with Jesus one step at a time.

Sometimes the most honest place we can come to is realizing:
“I need God.”

Still learning. Still surrendering. Still praying: “Lord, teach me how.” And maybe that is part of what the church truly is — believers growing together under Jesus Christ one step at a time.

This teaching explores what the church truly is through Jesus Christ.

Not merely buildings, entertainment, programs, personalities, or attendance — but believers gathered together under Jesus as the Head, learning to surrender, grow, pray, discern, heal, love, and walk through life together through the leading of the Holy Spirit.

This message also reflects on praying honestly through trials and seasons of growth with the simple prayer:

“Lord, teach me how.”

How to overcome.

How to trust God.

How to heal.

How to surrender.

How to walk by faith.

How to let Christ work in us.

And after overcoming, learning to pray:

“Lord, teach me how to help others through these things too.”

The teaching includes reflections on:

  • Acts 2 and the early church,

  • Christ in us,

  • worshipping God rather than man,

  • sanctification,

  • iron sharpening iron,

  • relationships,

  • humility,

  • discernment,

  • and the Holy Spirit drawing people to Jesus Christ.
